Our customer in North Yorkshire was about to rip up this beautiful kitchen floor to purchase a new kitchen floor until we visited to carry out a floor assessment and test patch to show what a deep clean and seal could do!
Travertine is a beautiful natural stone with attractive earth tones making it a great choice for Kitchen floors but is also prone to having dirt ingrained in its pores. Travertine is created from a process of rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate which means it is sensitive to acidic cleaning products which if used can cause the stone to dissolve leaving small pits and holes in the surface where dirt becomes trapped making it look dirty even with regular cleaning.
It is vital to have Travertine floors sealed on a regular basis to maintain its resistance to stains, scratches and water. We recommend re-sealing the floor every three to four years depending on how much the floor is used and how well it has been maintained. The sealer needs to be an impregnator sealer so that it soaks into the pores of the stone and to prevent dirt and debris from becoming trapped. This customer chose to have a honed matt appearance to bring out the natural beauty of the stone and to leave a natural finish.
We left our very happy customer with a free maintenance product and maintenance guide and a beautiful Travertine floor looking like new again!
